WCC 2003: Computing environment

We will prepare some PCs running Linux at the Conference site for WCC participants.
Each PC will have
- telnet and ssh for people to login to their own host computers for reading / writing e-mails.
- Mozilla web browser for accessing web mails and usual web browsing.
Their IP numbers will be in the range 128.93.135.0/24
For those who come with laptops and need network, we will provide some RJ45 connections.
It will allow you to connect to the Internet via your Ethernet port. Your laptop should be equipped with an RJ45 jack. The IP address of your machine will be defined dynamically by using a DHCP server.
To use DHCP, you must first register your machine. You may register your machine in advance of your visit, and you will be ready to plug into the network when you arrive. To register, just email the hardware address of your laptop's ethernet card to wcc-orga@inria.fr. The hardware address of your ethernet card (also called MAC address or physical address) consists of 6 pairs of 2digit Hexadecimal numbers often separated with colons (:), eg. 00:0A:12:2F:45:6A
It can be obtained as follows:
- Linux: Run /sbin/ifconfig -a
- Windows 95 / 98 / ME: Run the command winipcfg
- Windows NT4 / 2000 / XP: Run ipconfig /all in a command prompt window.
Wireless connection
A wireless (WiFi) connection to the Internet will be provided in the conference rooms.
