Applications

Problematic:

The whole set of methods under development are subject to undergo testing on applied configurations, notably atmospheric applications set up at CEREA.

Objectives:

One can cite, for example, the following projects, in their beginning phase or under way:

• 4D var for atmospheric chemistry and automatic differentiation (Programme National de Chimie Atmosphérique, CNRS),
• small scale inverse modeling of radionuclide (MIRA Project, Modélisation Inverse des Rejets Atmosphériques, IRSN),
• mesoscale inverse modeling of radionuclide (EdF, IRSN project under way),

The extension of that activity to two major problematics is under way:

• $CO_2$ inverse modeling for greenhouse effect within a partnership with LSCE (CEA-CNRS),
• inverse modeling of aerosol distributions from satellite data in the framework of a PhD thesis funded by CNES, in cooperation with the Laboratory for Atmospherics Optics (Laboratoire d'Optique Atmosphérique).

Lastly, an important activity is about air quality forecasting, with on-going work at Santiago (Chile) and Berlin.

The POLAIR 3D-model will be tested in the air quality forecasting platform at regional and continental scales (PIONEER Project), besides the models of ``Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique'' and Météo-France. A possible objective would be the definition of data assimilation methods in that context.

Other environmental applications could also be initiated, like the SACYTOX project on lake water quality assessment.
