- Installation :

The minimum disc space required for the installation of MODULEF is approximately 100 MB. On a SUN4 workstation, this space is occupied as follows:

Source code : 25 MB Makefile's : 0.5 MB Binary files : 50 MB These values are merely indicative since they depend on the machine used, the options of compilation options, and the executable files created (it is not obligatory to create all the executables).

- Utilization :

The memory necessary to execute MODULEF depends on the problem under consideration. The larger the number of unknowns, the larger the size of the super-array to be reserved. As an indication, a 2D elasticity problem with

**3 600**triangles and**3 722**degrees of freedom ( nodes) requires:

627 487 words for the matrix, with skyline storage (MUA); 86 036 words for the matrix, with compact storage (AMAT); 7489 words for the RHS vector (B). This problem was solved by a simple conjugate gradient method (one D.S. AMAT and one D.S. B) with the following configurations:

In addition, the MODULEF system requires a Fortran 77 compiler with the following two extensions:

- If an array of type INTEGER is an actual argument in a subroutine call, the corresponding dummy argument can either be an array of type INTEGER, REAL or DOUBLE PRECISION.
- A variable of type INTEGER must be large enough to contain 4 characters (in general, 32 bits or more).

MODULEF runs successfully on a number of computers, such as CRAY, HP/Apollo, IBM RS 6000, SUN, Silicon, HP 9700, Dec Alpha OSF/1 etc.
